Semper Fi / Halfcast & Syntax

Since first hooking up in Sydney in late 2004, Canadian born producer/dj Semper-Fi and American MC/Spoken Word artist Halfcast have been spawning their own hybrid sound combining elements of drum’n'bass, hip-hop and dancehall along with conscious lyrics to create a unique sound all their own. While Semper-Fi has been playing around the Sydney drum’n'bass & dubstep scene for some time and has opened for acts as diverse as reggae legends Sly & Robbie, hip hop heavyweight DJ MK (Roots Manuva) and New Zealand’s Salmonella Dub, Halfcast has done his time doing shows with Philadelphia’s Schoolz Of Thought, more left field glitchstep with Starkey and his own acoustic projects as Acronym Jonez. Together the two hooked up with New Zealand’s Dub Conspiracy label releasing their first track ‘Freedim Meaning’ late in 2005. In October of 2006 their debut EP was released on the eve of the Australian Dub Conspiracy tour with Budspells, Kora, Cornerstone Roots and Salmonella Dub. While now located on complete opposite sides of the planet (Philadelphia to Sydney) the duo continue to work on new tracks and now count fellow philly rapper Syntax of the group Skoolz Of Thought as part of the crew. With their first track ‘Found Sound’ put together for the last DNBBQ compilation now out of the way, the team are currently working on their debut album to be released in late 2009 and all 3 will tour Australia, New Zealand and the US towards the end of the year. In the meantime, Semper-Fi & Halfcast launch the new free mixtape ‘The Research’ at DNBBQ in March featuring works in progress from the upcoming album along some with re works of older tracks. Don’t Sleep!
