Icicle aka Jeroen Snik was born & raised in Holland. At the Age of 8 Icicle first started playing piano and soon got onto the drum kit. It wasn’t long until he started making beats using an old school midi set-up and aged 15 he became hooked on drum and bass after going to local night “Jungle Galaxy”. Getting some turntables and better music making software followed and Icicle was on his way.

Icicle takes inspiration from the dirty basslines of the likes of Jonny L and Optical and the intricate drum patterns of Photek & Source Direct. With this approach Icicle’s tech funk sounds have quickly earned him DJ support from Goldie, LTJ Bukem, Fabio, London Elektricity, Pendulum, Andy C, Friction, D-Bridge, DJ Flight and Commix no less.

After releasing music on highly respected labels such as RAM, Shogun Audio, Soul:R, Renegade Hardware and Critical, Icicle thought it was time to make the move to England and at the end of 2008 he did. From London he can now fully focus on his musical career, Djing regularly around the world but more importantly working in the studio. Not afraid to stray from the beaten track, Icicle is also working on various non-drum and bass Projects.

Bio:
Black Sun Empire represent the finest in dark and techy dancefloor drum & bass. Since bursting onto the scene back in 2000, they’ve continued to develop their own unique style and sound, releasing numerous singles as well as four full-length LPs and establishing themselves as leaders in the field. With their awesome DJ skills and inspirational productions, Black Sun Empire have reached far beyond their native Holland. They’ve toured the world over, with highlights this year including Glastonbury and numerous other festival appearances, and continue to build on their growing reputation as some of the most exciting and consistent performers around. ‘Lights and Wires’ is their fourth LP, released in November 2010, and demonstrates their versatility across tempos whilst still staying true to their own sound.

Borne of brothers Milan and Micha Heyboer along with René Verdult, Black Sun Empire is a DJ/producer collective based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Since first making music together in 1993, the trio experimented with various styles until they found their musical direction around 1997 and formed Black Sun Empire. Heavily influenced by releases from the darker labels such as No U Turn, Prototype and Virus, they took the techstep drum & bass blueprint and set out to make a new sound of their own.

With a sound that was fresh, new and progressive, their early demos caught the ears of several well-established labels. Their debut release came courtesy of Rotterdam based label Piruh in 1999 with the tracks ‘Skin Deep’ and ‘Voltage’ and further release on Piruh and another Dutch imprint, DJ Esta’s “A New Dawn,” soon followed. It wasn’t long, however, before their technically proficient productions came to the attention of Trace, the long-serving DJ and techstep pioneer, and he invited Black Sun Empire to compose a remix for his label DSCi4. They took on the classic “Mutant Jazz,” and provided a remix of truly devastating proportions that announced Black Sun Empire on the UK and indeed the world scene.

Further release on DSCi4 came and were followed by remixes for SKC and Technical Itch before, in 2002, the boys decided to start a label of their own. Set up as an outlet for their increasing body of work, Black Sun Empire Recordings became home for their own productions as well as collaborations with other like-minded artists. Their first album ‘Driving Insane’ was released in 2004 to critical acclaim and featured work with the collective talents of Concord Dawn and Stu from Cause 4 Concern alongside their own material. Deft, dynamic, devastating and deranged the album announced that the day of the Dutch was dawning. Supported by a mix CD, it showcased their sound in style and coincided with a highly successful world tour, taking in dates across the UK, Europe, USA and Australia.

Motivated by the massive response they had received, the boys followed up with their second long-player, ‘Cruel and Unusual’, in 2005. Raising the banner of the Black Sun Empire even higher than before, the LP featured further collaborative work with yet more high-profile artists including Noisia, Corrupt Souls and Kemal. Feeling the urge to satisfy other sides of their collective psyche, a sister label was established in the form of “oBSEssions.” Designed to cater for atmospheric, unusual and funky flavours, this label is certainly no lightweight and proven itself as one to watch with releases from the likes of Chris SU, Noisia and SKC so far alongside newer names.

Never losing touch with their roots, Black Sun Empire continue to promote their bi-monthly event ‘Blackout’ in their home town of Utrecht and are looking forward to it’s seventh year aniversary in 2010. This well-established event has attracted some of the best in DJ talent from across the globe and regularly draws crowds of up to 1,000 people. As resident DJs, Black Sun Empire consistently captivate the crowds by mixing their freshest material together with live elements to bring an edge to their sets.

Their most recent LP, ‘Endangered Species,’ drew together creative minds from across the drum & bass scene with input from Noisia, Bad Robot, Chris SU, Jade, State Of Mind, D.Kay, Optiv and Audio all featuring alongside BSE. The resulting tour was a resounding success worldwide with nearly 100 gigs and was soon followed by last year’s ‘My Lightyear LP’ Tour alongside Telemetrik, to promote his debut album on BSE Recordings. In 2009, BSE stayed on a roll with a whole raft of releases across their labels including collaborations with State Of Mind, N.Phect and Eye-D and opened their dubstep label, “Shadows of the Empire.”

November 2010 brings the release of their fourth LP “Lights and Wires” and an accompanying world tour, taking them to the USA, Australia, New Zealand and beyond. With more releases planned across their labels and more in store for their own night Blackout, it’s plain to see why they’re widely regarded as one of the hardest working DJ/producer teams around.

Crissy Criss has been heavily involved with the UK music anal from a very young age. Introduced to the decks at age five by his step-dad, the infamous Drum & Bass Producer and Dj Kenny Ken, Crissy taught himself to mix by age nine! At age 11 he joined drum & bass pirate station Kool FM and played his first club set at The End in London thanks to DJ Zinc who requested Crissy to play.
But his meteoric rise did not end there. Crissy released his first track on Back2Basics recordings in 2004, and in 2005 Crissy gained a coveted slot on Radio 1′s ‘The Residency’ and graduated on to a regular slot on 1Xtra in 2007 where he has been a regular fixture ever since, making him the youngest DJ/Presenter at present to broadcast nationally on BBC Radio One. Wielding a deft hand at multiple genres, Crissy Criss has been responsible for some of the largest tunes in dubstep, including the dancefloor smashing “kick. snare.”
Experienced well beyond his years, and connected to one of the biggest radio stations in the biz, Crissy is set to blow up Low Society, bringing a whole swag of fresh tracks, one off VIP remixes, Anthemic wobble and a whole heap of filthy bass downunder!!

Supported by one of Australia’s most talented dubstep producers Filth Collins, as well as Sydney’s Gabriel Clouston and The Low Society Djs, this looks to be another huge night from Low Society!

NICHE PRODUCTIONS & FOREIGNDUB join forces to present the Australian tour of one of the genre’s most elusive talents,

Calibre together with MC DRS.

Dominick Martin aka Calibre has been responsible for some of the most beautiful tracks in drum & bass to date and continues to drop jaws worldwide with his sublime and sultry productions. From his first full length LP on Creative Source to his latest album “Even If” on his own label Signature, Calibre’s sound has progressed taking in elements of jazz, funk, dub and techno and the result is deep soul. Having played all over the world from Belfast to Berlin, Calibre certainly knows how to captivate a crowd.

With a reputation stretching back over 15 years, DRS is a truly versatile MC, host and lyricist. Cutting his teeth and touring worldwide with the legendary Good Looking label, his soulful style on the mic and honest lyrics are unmatched. In recent years, he’s been an integral part of the Soul:r camp, recording tracks with Mist:ical, Lynx & Kemo and Calibre as well appearing as resident MC for Soul:ution and A Bunch of Cuts nights. DRS is also part of hip-hop crew Broke’n’English (Fat City).

Calibre has released music on a diverse range of labels including CIA, 31 Records, Commercial Suicide, Liquid V, Bassbin, Ganja, Exit, Critical, Integral, Quarantine, Deep Medi and Digital Soundboy. Calibre is far from a prolific DJ and prefers not to sacrifice valuable studio time in favour of extensive gigs abroad. However, He’s a highly capable selector behind the decks, and the rarity of his appearances seems to make them all the more special. Calibre’s known for dropping his own exclusive productions in the mix and frequently turns heads with a selection more rugged than some would expect.

Drum n Bass fans will not want to miss this. Electronic music fans with even a passing interest in DnB won’t want to pass the opportunity to see one of the deepest and most intelligent sounds in Drum n Bass on a proper sound system this April.

Broken Note consists of Tommy and Eddie (aka Kidnappa of 16bit), based in London, England. One from a punk background, one from hip-hop came together for a love of relentless bass music after wrecking their eardrums at London squat parties. Broken Note makes filthy drum and bass and dubstep.

Raised on a diet of pure filth, the Broken Note duo are bringing their own unique sound to the electronic music scene. Combining lean, considered production skills with an appreciation of diverse rough beats; they have quickly established themselves as a sonic force to be reckoned with.

Some of their recent and forthcoming releases can only very loosely be described as dubstep, with little in common with much of the scene’s output. Instead they draw from the Sino-Rastafarian sound and heavy bass; but also combine this with more of the kind of dark and aggressive beats that can be found in breakcore and jungle. Their drum & bass is similarly disturbingly brutal, with undulating beats and bass that are unashamed to draw from the darkly edgy sounds of gabber and techno. It delivers a rhythmic pounding that has set dance floors around the world on fire with its astonishing heaviness. The result is both at home in clubs and the vast expanse of a decaying urban warehouse, inspiring visions of a dark and techy future for their music. A description of one release was pegged as “The darkest, most frightening tunes that have ever found their way onto vinyl”.

Their live sets are currently based around two laptops running Ableton Live, utilizing various midi controllers and FX running with on the spot warping, cueing and live key work. The content tends to be a mash up of everything from dark dubstep to hardtekno, the most evil drum & bass to hardcore; playing many of their own tunes but mixing these with music by those who they draw inspiration from. They are both diverse and interesting, as well as being guaranteed to be one of the highlights of any night at which they are playing.
Make sure you get your tickets early as nobody wants to miss out on the Low Society experience!
