Makoto has kindly sent us this minimix leading up to his entrance into Australia and his performance at DNBBQ 27thNov2010.

Based in Tokyo, Makoto Shimizu, better known as simply Makoto, is Japan’s chief Drum & Bass ambassador. After completing an Acoustic Engineering major at Nippon University, Makoto first signed with LTJ Bukem’s legendary Good Looking Records back in 1999. Since then he has gone from strength to strength, releasing a long string of quality music in the form of singles and EP’s, but also on the famous ‘Earth’ and ‘Progression Sessions’ compilation albums. 2003 saw the release of his much anticipated debut album ‘HumanElements’this album was widely praised as the transition of 70s Soul into the 21st century. also “Progression Sessions Japan live 2003″ with Deeizm, recorded live from Space Lab Yellow in Tokyo was an absolute gem. Makoto is now ready to spread his wings.
With both remixes and original music already out or set for release on labels such as Innerground, Creative Source, Hospital, Liquid V and Bingo as well as a second album ‘Believe In My Soul’ has been released on Good Looking in 2007, the future is looking bright for the Tokyo native. As for deejaying, Makoto, has travelled across the world (the U.K., Europe, America, Brazil, Australia, Asia and Japan are just some of the places he has visited) and has become one of the most sought-after deejays on the Drum & Bass circuit. Makoto’s sets are characterised by the same jazzed-out and soulful music that he is known for as a producer.

New Zealand based producer ‘ Dub Terminator ‘ is becoming widely known for his unique blend of Jah heavy Roots & Dubstep flavor music. He has kindly updated us with his free downloads.
Producing & remixing tracks for Jamaican MC’s from abroad the past year has brought into his tunes big names like Rhombus & Rodney P, Reality Chant & Natty King, John Holt, Yellow man, Sizzla, Jim Nastic aka Jim Brown as well as an army of newly recruited Jamaican MC’s from Jamaica & Europe. Dub Terminators focus in 2010 has been on collaborating with spanish super selector & producer ‘High Freeqency’ who took on the role off shopping DT’s beats out to Jamaican vocalists from around the globe for their newly established Digi Label ‘ Soul island ‘ . Dub Terminator & High Freequency released there first album ‘ soul island vol 1 ‘ as a digital release in mid 2010 & after a huge amount of downloads & interest the boys hooked up the full NZ instore release for the album. A follow up Dub Terminator release ‘ Babylon Dubstep annihilation ‘ is now up for free download & with a futuristic urbanized soul island flavor its proving to be popular in the Jah heavy radio shows around Australasia & the world. Teaming up with NZ reggae super group Rhombus, Dub Terminator has been touring constantly up & down NZ both as a guest MC for the Rhombus in Dub show as well as showcasing the Dub Terminator sound-system set mashing up the tunes direct from the studio to the stage with a hi-tec ‘ Ableton live ‘ setup enabling the Dub Terminator to bring a live Reggae / Dubstep & extreme Bass heavy set to the dance floor. Dub Terminator has a notable cryslal clear sound & some of the most heavy & pure moog dub bass in the land.

THE SOUL ISLAND STORY

The Soul Island label was born late 2009 when New Zealand based producer Chris McLay (aka Dub Terminator) met with Spain-based producer, Jacobo Miquel (aka High Freequency) who was looking for someone to collaborate with and create remixes for the vocal dubplate recordings he had made with some big Jamaican artists.
High Freequency sent a few initial vocal acapellas by the likes of Yellowman, Sizzler and John Holt to Dub Terminator, who then laid down some smashing remixes.
The duo then took things a step further, and began sending fresh riddims to other vocalists around the globe for them to write vocals for.
Dub Terminator spent weeks dreaming up and producing the riddims and forwarded them on to High Freequency who then got busy hooking up the artists and booking studios around the globe for the tracks to be recorded in. Once the riddims arrived back to the studio in NZ, it became clear things were all go – it was a real ting! Amazing tracks by amazing artists from Jamaica to Canada, UK to Africa flooded the wires over the next few months.
Dub Terminator finished crafting the tracks with his own distinctive mix of bass heavy roots, dubstep and downbeat. Tunes created with the aim of bringing a fresh new sound to your ears! – a conscious blend of the individual styles and unique cultures brought together by the project.
